15th September - Trust encourages fans to return for TV game

The Devils Trust is inviting all Crawley Town fans, including those who have stayed away this season in protest at the Majeed brothers' controversial regime, to attend Monday's home Conference game against Oxford United, which is to be shown live on Sky Sports.

Some members of the Trust working group have continued to attend matches this season, while others have been among the many disenfranchised fans who decided not to go to home matches on a point of principle until the Majeeds agree to sell the club.

However, the Trust believe that Monday's game against the unbeaten league leaders provides an ideal opportunity to highlight the strength of feeling there is against the current owners, and also to show possible new investors the potential the club has to be a success under new management.

In 2004-05, Crawley Town averaged crowds of 2,016 in their first Conference season. Yet the last three home games have seen vastly reduced gates of less than a thousand – just 778 fans attended the 2-0 defeat against Northwich.

Trust spokesman Phil Agius said: “We completely understand the views of those Crawley Town fans who have taken a principled stand against the Majeeds' mismanagement of our club. However, we feel the best way to make a point against them for this game only is to turn up on Monday and make your voice heard across the country.

“Let's show everyone that we are united against the Majeeds and in favour of a bright future for Crawley Town Football Club. We have a chance to show potential new investors that they will be buying a club with masses of potential on and off the field under the guidance of more competent owners.

“Oxford fans have been in contact asking how they can assist in any peaceful protest and we appreciate their support.

“It is, of course, up to the individual whether they wish to resume any personal boycotts of home games after the Oxford match.”

The Trust would like to make it clear that supporters are encouraged to make their views heard in a good-spirited, peaceful and dignified manner suitable for a family atmosphere and while abiding by the ground regulations.
