26th July - Devils Trust statement

The Devils Trust have given a resounding welcome to the decision to place Crawley Town Football Club up for sale. The move comes after creditors voted against an offer put to them by the Majeed brothers following their running of the club which resulted in administration.

Speaking on behalf of the trust, Antony Weller said: "The no vote was a positive move in the right direction for the future of the football club. We, like the many hundreds of supporters who have backed us, have always believed the best interests of the club would be served by the Majeed brothers relinquishing control. Their reluctance to do so has resulted in this catastrophic episode and now it thankfully appears to be backfiring on them."

The trust has previously called for home fixtures to be boycotted by fans and on the evidence of the first pre-season game against Millwall ten days ago, it was a huge success. The trust, though, have warned that the fight to rid the club of the Majeeds must continue.

"Many people have been asking us whether the trust believes the boycott should remain in place. Firstly it's important that the decision to not go through the gate was a personal decision by each and every supporter and that always remains their right. The same can be said now that the club is up for sale.

"The trust is wary of speculation linking the Majeeds with a bid to buy the club now that it is formally up for sale. We believe that should not be an option open to the administrators and will continue to campaign against that scenario happening. As a result fans are once again being asked to show their support by stopping cash flow into the Majeeds' business empire.

"Obviously for some that means not entering the ground again, although we understand and accept that many fans feel duty bound to show their support for the players in a Crawley shirt. We would once again ask supporters to congregate in the car park before the match in an act of solidarity with those who have worked so hard for this outcome."

The reason for congregating outside the ground before the match is to show any prospective buyer the passion and desire of Crawley football fans that they will be working with if any purchase is successful. Of course some will decide to enter the ground and, as before, every supporter should do what they wish in a peaceful and lawful way.
